Infrared Thermography

Infrared Thermography allows us to detect temperature distribution not visible to the naked eye.

Infrared Thermography helps us in moisture, roof and energy-loss inspections. It is the process of using a thermal imager to detect radiation or heat coming from an object or area within your building.
It works similar to radiometric thermometers, which measure actual temperature but do not show any temperature distribution. Infrared Thermography is useful in many different inspections, including those of a roof, insulated walls, mechanical/electrical panels, and general building condition. One of the major benefits of using Infrared Thermography is that we are able to quickly scan large areas without demolition, resulting in less cost and hassle.

Listed below are a few of the main assessments done with Infrared Thermography to inspect and identify water damage in roofing systems, walls and mechanical/electrical panels.

Moisture Penetration: These thermographs are a visual representation to show the difference in temperature through color. The material will have a different color depending on the temperature. Even though the temperature is normal, if it comes into contact with moisture, the temperature will be lower. This difference can be shown through the thermal photos. Moisture will typically hold the day’s heat longer, allowing us to pinpoint areas of concern.

Location of Voids in Concrete: Determining concrete quality is important. This can be done by testing for voids. These are empty spaces in the concrete. This can also measure the compaction efficiency, which means how well the concrete has been mixed.

In essence, Infrared Thermographs are beneficial in assessing heat, moisture and faults within your building and help us to gain the best understanding of which areas require the most or immediate attention, which areas are upholding and which areas could use minor improvements. All findings are compiled within a report, including budget, which assists us and our expert Project Managers in designing the best strategy and plan for your building.
